Twas the night before Christmas
In the City of Light
They’re igniting more candles
In defiance of fright
Charlie Hebdo, one horror
Bataclan, even worse
Some went out to a concert
And went home in a hearse
Yes you have our attention,
So-called Islamic State
What’s your goal? Armageddon?
Now the stakes escalate
While the bombs drop in Syria
Some are Russian, some Turk
Tough to tell friend from foe
In the dark and the murk
Meanwhile, refugees suffer
“Bring them here, heed their prayers!”
It took smugglers and drownings
To make us aware
But they’re Muslim, spits Trump
And his vile, loathsome kind
Perhaps “None is too many”
In a charlatan’s mind
Happily, north of the border
In the land strong and free
There is less xenophobia
And perhaps, maybe, glee!
The PM is a Trudeau
Not as smart, but he’s cute
Can he balance a budget?
Will we be destitute?
Still, we have back our census!
And the scientists can speak!
Smoking weed will be legal!
So rejoice, all you freaks
Rona Ambrose, caretaker
Of a small Tory flame
Tom Mulcair, devastated
Yet some Dippers remain
For how long, though, on Broadway?
Where they’ve ruled 16 years
And the red ink is flowing
Current state: In arrears
Will Greg S cling to power?
Is this Brian’s race to lose?
Can Bokhari play spoiler
Just by pledging cheap booze?
And then what, shall we wonder
Will Brian Bowman now do
When there’s no new growth revenue
To help transit go through
Winnipeg, dubbed most racist
Also, best place to go
Leaving us left to wonder
What do magazines know?
Least the Jets made the playoffs
And the Bombers … own cleats!
Gotta look on the bright side
If you wanna fill seats
There is hope to be found
If you try just a tad
’Cause the planet’s not frightening
When you choose to be glad
There’s consensus, on climate
The deniers, on the run
There are fewer people hungry
Though more work must be done
So be nice to all strangers
And be kind to your friends
From the Freep, accept our wishes:
Let your joy never end.
