Synopsis:

Are you already working as an audiobook narrator, but have questions about how to up your game?  Good.  Pack them up and bring them to this workshop, so you can get the answers you seek. The aim of this workshop is to focus on topics that will help YOU, the more experienced audiobook narrator, move to the next level.  

  • How can you develop more audiobook opportunities?

  • What role do agents play in audiobooks?

  • Is it okay to cold call publishers and audiobook producers for projects?

  • What should you include on your audiobook demo?

  • What does an audiobook director do?

  • What is fair pay for audiobook projects?

  • How, when and where do you network for opportunities?

  • What is happening within the audiobook community?

  • What is the state of the audiobook industry?

Plus, come prepared to read your book excerpt and receive direction from our guest instructor.


About our guest instructor:

Jessica Kaye is the producer and director of nearly 1,000 audiobooks.  Her work includes audiobooks for Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, Macmillan and others. She has directed two of the past 4 Odyssey Award-winning audiobook productions, including Rotters in 2012 and the recent 2016 winner, The War That Saved My Life.

Jessica’s 1990’s-era company The Publishing Mills won a Grammy Award and a subsequent second Grammy nomination. Many other audiobooks she has directed have been Grammy-nominated or Grammy Award-winning, as well.

Jessica has served as President of the Audio Publishers Association and currently serves on its Board of Directors.

Ms. Kaye founded Big Happy Family, LLC, a digital distribution company for audiobooks (www.bighappyfamilyaudio.com) in 2006. She is the creator and co-editor of the short story anthology MEETING ACROSS THE RIVER (Bloomsbury, 2005) and a contributor to the science fiction anthology OCCUPIED EARTH (Polis Books, 2015.)
