Friends of Lakeview, a partner of the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce and a 501©(3) non-profit organization, is hosting a SoulCycle Fundraiser for the Lakeview Low-Line on August 7th from 7:30-8:30PM!

First introduced in 2011, the Lakeview Low-Line is a project intended to transform the half-mile space beneath the raised L-tracks of Southport and Lincoln Avenues. Featuring rotating art exhibits, an interactive light installation, and plazas at Ashland, Paulina, and Southport, this project looks to not only connect these unique sub-districts but beautify and bring new attention to the neighborhood. The cost to ride is $55, will all proceeds going to the Lakeview Low-Line project. 

Important details for all riders:

1. You must make an account with SoulCycle, if you do not already have one. Head to this link to make your account and be aware you will be asked to sign a waiver at the front desk upon your arrival.

2. Please arrive 20 minutes before the ride (7:25PM).

We’re pleased to share that the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce has named Dillon Goodson as our new Executive Director. In this role, he will be responsible for providing vision, direction, and leadership to the Lakeview Chamber as well as its partners, Special Service Area 27 (SSA 27) and Friends of Lakeview. Dillon has spent the past four years serving as the organization’s Community Development Director, where he oversaw the annual work plan of SSA 27 and led our work to enhance public streets and spaces, create memorable experiences, and promote Lakeview and its businesses. For the past decade, he has worked in community and economic development in Chicago, where he has helped improve neighborhoods like the Loop and Lakeview with initiatives that create stronger connections between people and the places they share.

As part of Dillon’s transition, the Lakeview Chamber has also named Nicole McLellan as Community Development Manager, where she’ll assume responsibility for managing SSA 27 and executing its annual work plan. Nicole comes to the Lakeview Chamber with more than four years of experience working in community engagement, event programming, and development for nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining the chamber in 2019, Nicole led global expansion and engagement at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, working with stakeholders and other decision-makers around the world to build organizational presence in new regions. She holds a B.A. in International Relations & Global Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a M.S. in International Public Service from DePaul University.

Besides the great food from SIP, good company, and fun entertainment by The Cupid Players, one of the highlights of our evening was recognizing outstanding local business owners with the Above & Beyond and Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards.

Both of our Above & Beyond Award winners are not only successful business people, but they have also demonstrated an incredible commitment to public service and community improvement through their years of service as Special Service Area (SSA) Commission officers and as long-time members and supporters of the Chamber.

Kevin Vaughan, owner of Vaughan Hospitality and Mystic Celt, served 6 years on the Chamber Board of Directors, including as Treasurer, and he has served as Treasurer of the SSA 27 Commission since 2012. Kevin’s leadership organized the Southport Merchants in 2006 in response to the year-long closure of the Southport CTA station, leading to monthly merchant meetings that have continued to this day, and which he hosted as Mystic Celt along with countless other community meetings.

Lisa Santos, owner of Southport Grocery and Cafe, has served as an SSA Commissioner since 2006, and as chair of the SSA 27 Commission since 2010. Her strong leadership guided the Commission through cutting-edge projects such as the Lakeview Area Master Plan and the installation of two People Spots, earning our SSA a reputation as one of the best and most innovative in the City.

Both Lisa and Kevin are stepping down from their SSA roles this year. We thank them for their years of volunteer service to our community.

Our Entrepreneurial Spirit Award this year went to 4 Star Restaurant Group, which opened Frasca on Lincoln Avenue in 2006 and followed it up with Crosby’s on Southport in 2012. Last year their business went through tremendous expansion, opening 2 new restaurants downtown, and they also began planning to double their presence in Lakeview with two additional restaurants in the Southport Corridor. We’re excited to see their growth in Lakeview. Additionally, 4 Star Restaurant Group is a long-time member of the Chamber and supported our Paulina Station Merchants Task Force, hosting our early meetings.
