If approved, the microbrew will be the first in the municipality and be located in the Dominion Triangle.

The paperwork for Port Coquitlam's first microbrew is now moving through city hands.

Tonight (Thursday), PoCo's smart growth committee is expected to review a bid by Northpaw Brew Company to set up a 25-seat lounge and craft brewery at 570 Sherling Ave. — on the east side of the Fremont Connector — in the Dominion Triangle.

The company is asking the municipality for a parking variance, which is set to be approved by the committee. As well, Northpaw has also submitted an application for its liquor establishment; it will be considered at a later date by council.

Northpaw has been brewing at Foamers Folly in Pitt Meadows since last spring.

In other PoCo news:

Port Coquitlam city planners will monitor the real estate listings each week to look for private land for potential public development.

Last week, the city's finance and intergovernmental committee adopted an "interim approach" to potential property acquisitions.

Up until now, the city has only had a policy regarding the sale of municipal lands — not on the  purchase of private residential and commercial parcels.

Laura Lee Richard, PoCo's development services director, wrote in her report that properties listed in key areas such as the downtown core, the northside commercial area, close to the Coquitlam River (north of Lougheed Highway) or around parks will be brought to council's attention.
