Now that President Donald Trump has been officially sworn in, speculation over the former business mogul’s ties to Russia will not go quietly away. A multi-agency investigation into Russian attempts to influence last November’s election, uncovering communication and financial transactions between advisors the nation and advisors of Trump.

In an incredibly complex series of movies, the FBI and five other law enforcement and intelligence agencies worked in tandem to see if the Kremlin-funded attempts to get President Trump elected going back to last spring. Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign manager, Carter Page, who served as Trump’s campaign foreign policy advisor, and Roger Stone, a GOP operative have all been connected to the clandestine correspondence.

More from the New York Times:

The F.B.I. is leading the investigations, aided by the National Security Agency, the C.I.A. and the Treasury Department’s financial crimes unit. The investigators have accelerated their efforts in recent weeks but have found no conclusive evidence of wrongdoing, the officials said. One official said intelligence reports based on some of the wiretapped communications had been provided to the White House.

Counterintelligence investigations examine the connections between American citizens and foreign governments. Those connections can involve efforts to steal state or corporate secrets, curry favor with American government leaders or influence policy. It is unclear which Russian officials are under investigation, or what particular conversations caught the attention of American eavesdroppers. The legal standard for opening these investigations is low, and prosecutions are rare.

“We have absolutely no knowledge of any investigation or even a basis for such an investigation,” said Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for the Trump transition.

The men deny any wrongdoing or connection with Putin or Russian officials, with Mantacort accusing Democrats of playing politics. There are no official charges of yet but chatter suggests that more investigations are underway.
