Sara Duterte eyes congressional seat in 2019

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Monday said she is planning to run for Congress in the 2019 midterm elections, as she denied intentions to gun for a national post.

"No, I do not have plans on running on a national post. In the 2019 elections I have plans of running in the first congressional district of Davao City," she told reporters after the launching of pro-administration alliance "Tapang at Malasakit Alliance for the Philippines."

"Tsaka kung tatakbo man akong senador hindi ako maga-announce ngayon, masyadong maaga. Pero wala talaga," she added.

President Rodrigo Duterte's feisty daughter further said, "Ang sa akin lang is I call on voters this early pumili kayo ng mga tao na alam niyong magtatrabaho talaga."

Senate President Aquilino "Koko' Pimentel III has already bared several names that may likely compose the senatorial slate of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) in the 2019.

Pimentel said that aside from himself, to be included in the slate are House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas, Representatives Alfredo Benitez (Negros Occidental), Geraldine Roman (Bataan), Karlo Nograles (Davao City), and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino.
