The movie RAIN won the best women's rights film award at the London Eye International festival on Sunday. The awards which took place at the Terbanacle Theater in London were organised and run by London Film Network Ltd.

According to Eleanor Nabwiso who is part of the cast and also producer, the film tells the life story of a girl called Dora alias Rain who holds onto the idea of hope, irrespective of her overwhelming tragedies.

"Born from a village in Masaka, Rain has a dream of becoming a shining music star. However, this dream is short-lived when Mr. DJ, an event music selector abuses her sexually," Nabwiso narrates.

"Rain gets pregnant and contacts HIV. It is her perseverance and steadfast hope that keeps her alive and eventually she becomes a productive citizen when she decides to become a counsellor and offer emotional support to those that may be experiencing hardships in life," she adds.

The piece directed by Daniel Mugerwa and produced by Eleanor and Mathew Nabwiso has won awards from different film festivals such as best actress in the East African category from FESTICAB a film festival in Burundi, best first time director from the same festival, best film in Africa and Middle East award from NUREN a film festival in China and best screenplay UFF a Ugandan film festival.

The London Eye International Festival is committed to the independent filmmakers from around the world and gives special attention to the screening of films by emerging film makers, films shot with low, micro or no budget and quality films that - for whatever reason - are unlikely to receive distribution through other channels but whose concept, style or message could stand out and reach the audience worldwide.
