A two-car wreck on Route 356 in Allegheny Township during the afternoon rush hour Thursday shut down traffic for about 40 minutes and sent one woman to a hospital.

Police said the unidentified woman was trying to turn onto Pine Run Road about 5:20 p.m.

She apparently pulled into the path of another driver, said Allegheny Township Patrolman Jacob Skundra.

Both drivers were able to get out of their vehicles on their own, Markle Fire Chief Jimmy Rearick said. He said crews helped to remove debris from the road.

Some Route 356 traffic was diverted into Northmoreland Park and looped around the crash site near Hilltop Glass. Other traffic attempting to reach the Vandergrift area was diverted up Orr Avenue.

Route 356 was reopened to traffic at 6 p.m.
