State introduces portable benefits bill for gig economy (JD Supra Business Advisor)

Washington state is considering legislation that would create portable, prorated, universal benefits for workers in the sharing economy, Richard Meneghello of Fisher Phillips writes in JD Supra Business Advisor. The bill would require sharing economy companies to contribute money toward a benefits system for independent contractors who work on their platforms, and was proposed by state Rep. Jessyn Farrell, D-Seattle.
