Chesapeake - Gayle Culpepper Hughes, 67, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2017, surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was born in Portsmouth, VA, to the late Marvin & Ruby Culpepper.
Gayle was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and dedicated over 40 years to caring for babies at the church nursery. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over 10 years. Gayle dedicated her life to her family and friends, providing countless meals of comfort for all occasions. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially the time spent with her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, William W. Hughes; 2 daughters, Cherie Mathews & husband Michael and Melanie Paskalev & husband Rado; 5 grandchildren, Hunter, Abigail, Alexandra, Jonathan and Thomas; sister-in-law, Betty Culpepper; three nieces; along with extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, from 6-8:00 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017. The funeral will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at 1:00 pm at Deep Creek Baptist Church, with Pastor Larry Ryals officiating. Burial will follow at Culpepper Family Cemetery, with Pastor Ernie Myers officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
