TOMPKINS COUNTY– A Village of Lansing resident has recently announced that she will be running for a seat on the Tompkins County Legislature.
Deborah Dawson is currently a member of the Village of Lansing’s Planning Board, and will be running in District 10 which encompasses both the Village of Lansing and the Village of Cayuga Heights. Dawson explains more about what got her into the political arena in the first place.
“Well I’ve always been kind of a political junkie but from the spectator’s side”, she said. “When I retired and we moved here, I got involved in village government. A couple of years ago, people started to say you know you really ought to run for County Legislator. You know, once somebody plants a seed like that? I thought okay, I’ll check this out”.
Dawson also says she’s looking forward to the challenges of the Legislature should she be elected.
“It’s a strange district the 10th because it’s the villages of Cayuga Heights and the Village of Lansing”, she said. “I think it will be an interesting challenge to boil down the shared concerns. My issues are primarily fiscal and economic, and they’re issues that impact the county as a whole”.
Dawson also says that she plans to take her campaign door to door as a way for her to get the most accurate sense of what voter’s concerns are. Dawson would replace the recently-retired Dooley Kiefer if elected.
