Bus carrying Hempfield students rear-ends car during field trip; no injuries reported

A bus carrying students from the Hempfield Area School District got into a minor crash on the way to Hersheypark Thursday morning, officials said.

The bus, one of three carrying eighth-graders from Wendover Middle School on a field trip to the theme park, rear-ended a car on Route 81 and sustained minor damage, said Superintendent Barbara Marin.

The other two buses continued to the park, and Middlesex Township Police cleared the damaged bus to follow them.

None of the 51 students aboard the bus complained of injuries, but medical personnel were dispatched to the park and checked them over as a precaution, Marin said. The district notified parents of all the students aboard, and the buses were expected to return at their scheduled time Thursday night.
