Tense situation in Mt. Lavinia

A A A

Heavy traffic was reported in Mt. Lavinia due to a protest organised by a group of residents and Buddhist monks against the detaining of Rohingya refugees at a house in the area by the UNHRC.

The refugees were taken under the police custody earlier today due to security concerns.

However, they had been brought back to the two-storey house because of the lack of accommodation at the police station. (Rekha Tharangani)

You can keep snake inside your home, but an extremist who has a track record from where they come from

    agentx Wednesday, 27 September 2017 08:18 AM

dont be a fool, these is that child a extremists or terrorist?

    sam Wednesday, 27 September 2017 08:20 AM

Why do they become monks? Some monks are very good at preaching to others. No amount of alms given once dead is useless if you do not have compassion for your fellow human being when living. A very sad day for Buddhism.

    Mazz Wednesday, 27 September 2017 08:50 AM

so you're saying that those innocent women and children were terrorists?? how do you suppose to say that they are extremists ?? where's your humanity ??

Sri Lankan Wednesday, 27 September 2017 06:24 PM

Man, I believe in God and hope and pray you experience the same thing.

    Snowy Tuesday, 26 September 2017 06:32 PM

I am a man who believes in the Buddhist philosophy and the behaviour of monks ( I would like to call the men in yellow cloths) . The Buddha preached "Karuna, Metta Mudita and Upekkha. What is happening in Mt. Lavinia is just the opposite. It is a sad day for people who accept the "Buddhist Philosophy". What the Buddha preached was a philosophy and not a religion.

    TONY Tuesday, 26 September 2017 06:46 PM

EVEN THE MONKS DONT SEEM TO BE ABIDING BY BUDDHAS TEACHINGS

    karen Tuesday, 26 September 2017 07:06 PM

Buddhism at it's best? these people have lost everything, they are struggling to keep their children safe, what do these priests really know about their religion, adding to their folly they incite others to hatred as well

    S.T.M. Jabeer (Attorney-at-Law) Tuesday, 26 September 2017 07:10 PM

We must respect and regard UNHRC otherwise, we will be in great trouble, JO is only blocking every good acts, that is why they are rejected globally.

    Raffa Tuesday, 26 September 2017 07:12 PM

They have already lost their families, friends, belongings and moved here as refugees to save their life which is the only balance. In this situation, some of our people hurting them some more. These narrow minded people should go to a proper Pansala and study the Buddhism. People who are hurting the innocents cannot be Buddhists.

Lion Viswanathan Tuesday, 26 September 2017 07:13 PM

Hay Buddhist monks, keep away.... this is not under your preview.... now for everything monks come out, why its because of Mahinda's henchmen are behind the scene.

    Dr. A.C.B. Jayaweera Tuesday, 26 September 2017 07:15 PM

I am a Buddhist, but I am strongly against our religious leaders (monks) - they should only preach dharma, not to involve in other activities.

    Steve Wednesday, 27 September 2017 12:03 PM

Too sad cos Religion has got involved with Politics.

    kumar Tuesday, 26 September 2017 07:26 PM

    real animals!

Shan Maria Tuesday, 26 September 2017 07:27 PM

People in this country are absurd. Seriously? Are they really protesting against refugees?

    sarasa Tuesday, 26 September 2017 09:09 PM

This protest is against UNHRC OR THE REFUGEES.?Very sad situation

    Time Tuesday, 26 September 2017 09:19 PM

Uncivilized stupid srilankans !!! one day same thing will happen to you guys !!!

    BuffaloaCitizen Wednesday, 27 September 2017 09:03 AM

Please these are not Sri Lankans, try to be more specific... these are Sinhalese Buddhists.... they are already a shameless race internationally.

    kumaran Wednesday, 27 September 2017 12:26 AM

One has to be a refugee to know what it is to be a refugee. One does not have to be a Muslim, Christian, Buddhist or aethist. Just be a refugee!!As a Christian, the Scripture says, "Do unto others what you want others do to you".Buddhism teaches tolerance. I dont know what the Hindus and Muslims say!!"Man's inhumanity to man".

    shane Wednesday, 27 September 2017 02:12 AM

    Where the humanity,in Srilanka?

    mohamed Wednesday, 27 September 2017 02:33 AM

very obvious that Government and other intelligence units of foreign countries are instigating. I lived with Sinhalese and they were never like this and very accommodative than any other community in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan. One member of the family who came to protest will be in the Middle East to earn money. My question is why not these are not arrested

    Ram Wednesday, 27 September 2017 02:34 AM

This is a human issue and it appears the Buddhist monks are not following Lord Buddha's teachings. If there is a danger for the country at large by their presence there are ways to discuss that.

    Hapugala Wednesday, 27 September 2017 03:29 AM

Very unpleasant situation. Totally against the buddhist principles

    jeffry Wednesday, 27 September 2017 04:55 AM

This is what Buddhism teaches. They are human beings and also there are small kids. This is not the way to make protest.

    alex Wednesday, 27 September 2017 11:27 AM

the law should take its course and not these Buddhist monks

    VT Wednesday, 27 September 2017 11:35 AM

Where are our human rights activists ? Why don't they open their mouths

Raja Senanayake Wednesday, 27 September 2017 02:29 PM

Are we so heartless to treat these refugees so badly . Do we want to emulate the heartless Burmese, Aren't we a compassionate people? How come we react so badly.

Anushka Wj Wednesday, 27 September 2017 04:04 PM

Here. there is a valid point! "Ahaka inna Nai Redda asse daagena, passe danawoo danawoo kiyala kaagahanda epaa"
