Competitions mark the World Space Week

Dimapur, Sep 20 (EMN): In commemoration of the world space week, Nagaland GIS and the Remote Sensing Centre (NESAC), Department of Space and Indian Space Research Organisation, have jointly organised a state level inter-school painting competition at GIS and Remote Sensing Centre on September 20 on the theme ‘Exploring new worlds in space.’
Commissioner-Secretary of Planning, M Patton, recounted that there were no facilities during his time that we have now. With the advancement of technology and scientific facilities today, he said students are lucky to be in the present generation. He called upon the students not to impart only class knowledge but also to take part in different events when opportunity opens up.He further encouraged the students not to have inferiority complex but move forward in achieving greater heights and to never lose hope. He also said that the competition was an opportunity to expose oneself to be a part of a bigger space and encouraged all the participants and school authorities for being a part of the event.
As a part of the programme, NESAC organised various activities such as exhibitions, delivering popular talks, quiz competition and painting competitions at NESAC, Umiam.
On September 20, a space exhibitions stall was opened for students where scientists delivered popular talks on space technologies at NESAC, Umiam. The first winner in the quiz competition will be sent to NRSC, Hyderabad, to participate at the national level competition on October 10 and to celebrate world Space Week at NRSC, Hyderabad. The other top three winners of the painting competition will also be send to NRSC, Hyderabad, for evaluation and selection of final winners at the national level.
In the state level inter-school quiz and painting competition, six schools participated where Northfield School bagged the first prize in the quiz competition, while the 1st runners up was bagged by Baptist High School and the 3rd position by Little Flower School. In the painting competition, the 1st position was bagged by Northfield School, followed by TM Government Higher Secondary School in the second and third positions.
The programme was chaired by Project Director, Er. Mathung Kithan. Participants from six schools, teachers, staff of the GIS Department attended the programme.
