Information security analyst, software engineer and computer systems analyst top CareerCast’s new list of 2017’s best jobs in IT.

According to the report, great opportunities in IT exist across a variety of platforms throughout most — if not all — industries, and job seekers with different skill sets can find employment.

“Information technology plays a central role in almost every American’s daily life, and impacts the vast majority of the world,” said Kyle Kensing, CareerCast’s online content editor. “The proliferation of technology fuels the economic and job market landscapes, with careers in IT presenting some of the most promising opportunities of the foreseeable future.”

CareerCast’s Best Jobs in IT of 2017 list — with annual median salary and projected hiring growth by 2024 — includes:

1. Information security analyst: $92,600; 18%
2. Software engineer: $102,280; 17%
3. Computer systems analyst: $87,220; 21%
4. Network computer systems administrator: $79,700; 8%
5. Web developer: $66,130; 27%
6. Technical writer: $69,850, 10%

Rankings are based on CareerCast’s 2017 Jobs Rated report. Salary and growth outlook information are compiled from the Bureau of Labor Statistics with growth outlook through 2024.
