A DRIVER died after the Isuzu refrigerated van he drove in rammed into a steel post of the Cansaga bridge in Mandaue City Saturday evening.

The 42-year-old van driver named Anthony Gabasan was already dead when brought to the Mandaue City Hospital. He was transporting a truckload of fish from the Pasil fish market in Cebu City when the incident occurred.

A 29-year-old motorcycle driver Danleh Magallanes of barangay Tayud in Liloan town sustained injuries after being hit by the fallen steel post.

PO2 Ruben Dayon, traffic investigator of the Mandaue City Police Office, said they have yet to determine the cause of the accident.

Based on their initial investigation Gabasan, a native of Negros Occidental passed by the area at 10 p.m. The van is owned by a certain Ben Ursino.

Dayon said Gabasan was on the bridge’s north bound lane while Magallanes was southbound.
