Less than a year after Under Armour and HTC announced a partnership to create digital health products for athletes, a report has surfaced that the companies plan to launch a smart scale, according to AndroidHeadlines.

A listing in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group's registered device database indicated that the two companies may be working together to develop a smart scale, called UA Scale, that measures a user's weight and body fat. The posting has since been removed.

Under Armour and HTC first announced their partnership in January. Peter Chou, CEO of HTC said in a statement at the time that by partnering with Under Armour, the two companies aimed to "provide consumers with a range of connected health and fitness products and services that no other brand can match.” Although the details of the partnership were not disclosed, HTC did announce that Under Armour designers, sports scientists and athletes were working closely with HTC’s Connected Products business unit, as well as its design and engineering teams to create products for both professional and amateur athletes.

A few months later, HTC announced its first activity tracking device, called the HTC Grip, powered by Under Armour’s health tracking app UA Record. At the time, the company said the HTC Grip would be available in spring 2015. But in July, HTC said that it would postpone the launch of its activity tracker. HTC explained that after "wear testing" and user feedback, the company decided to align Grip with an entire product portfolio for health and fitness, powered by UA Record, that they expected to launch later in the year.

Last month, fitness device company Garmin unveiled its first smart scale, called Index Smart Scale, to help its users track weight and related metrics. Garmin was notably late to the smart scale market. Other consumer-focused companies, like Withings, have offered smartphone-connected weight scales since 2009.
