PETALING JAYA: Opposition Members of Parliament today said they were hopeful that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak will turn up in Parliament on the final day sitting tomorrow to explain the RM2.6 billion donation in his bank account.
Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen said they were very grateful that the PM said he would clarify all issues surrounding the money and hoped that he would keep his word.
"The PM is rarely present and we hope this time, he turns up and gives us a clear and honest explanation of how the money ended up in his bank account.
"Also, the opposition should be given a chance to pose questions and no restrictions should be placed," he said.
Wong Chen hoped the Prime Minister would not just read out a prepared text and disallow questions.
"We will just have to wait and see if he actually turns up in Parliament," said Seremban MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
Loke was of the opinion that the prime minister should appear in Parliament on a weekly basis to answer questions posed to him by MPs.
He said it was not enough for the PM to appear once in a while to answer questions.
The Seremban MP said lumping all the questions together was not the right thing to do as there would be hardly enough time to get any satisfactory replies.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said had in a written reply to the House, said Najib will explain the controversial RM2.6 billion donation on a set date in this session.
Azalina was responding to a question by Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) who wanted Najib to state where the funds originated from.
Lim also wanted to Najib to reveal as to how the money was spent.
"Well, there are many issues which need clarification and the PM must make sure these are answered," added Loke.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Wee Ka Siong urged everyone to wait patiently for answers from Najib and not to resort to speculations.
"Let us just wait for the reply. I am sure the PM will keep his word ," he added.
