Thanksgiving

Last Friday the greater Lansing area held its traditional kick off the holiday season event: Silver Bells. I almost didn’t make it this year. I’ve been suffering from quite the head cold and when both of my twins decided they didn’t really want to go this year, I thought I might skip it. Then miracle of miracles happened and my husband decided we were all going, because HE wanted to go. I’m glad I went. It was one of the best Silver Bell parades I had seen. The temperature was a steady mid 40 which combined with a double layer preparation for a cold night left me quite toasty. We walked from AA Creative Corridor down in REO Town since I had Sugar House Blues scheduled to begin set up at 7:00 p.m. They generously came in early so my family could attend the parade.

After the parade passed we were able to make our way to the Capitol where Lansing Public Media Center was projecting clips from holiday movies onto one of the buildings on Michigan Ave. Also new this year was the repainted Capitol dome itself. Crews had spent most of the summer repairing and repainting the dome.

Once again Downtown Inc. came through with an amazing show, shared by tens of thousands of eager holiday revelers. If we’re not in the spirit yet maybe the 10 inches of snow that came down the next day did the trick!

May this Thanksgiving fill you with joy and love!
