A hearse owned by a funeral homes in Cebu City caught fire past 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Talisay City Fire Marshal Randy Mendaros said driver of St. Bernard Funeral Homes was not hurt because he was able to get out of the vehicle before the fire had spread.

He said the vehicle came from a public cemetery in Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, Cebu for a funeral service and was heading back to their mortuary along Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Cebu City.

The driver, whose name Mendaros failed to get, was advised by other motorists that the hood of his car was on fire upon reaching the corner of Rabaya Street along the Cebu South Coastal Road in Talisay.

He then parked the vehicle at the side of the road before it burst into flames, said Mendaros.

The fire was put out by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel in nine minutes.

Mendaros said that based on initial investigation, defective electrical system of the vehicle might have caused the fire.
