Hey there, time traveller!

Sharon Delbridge would like to keep on moving until she physically can’t anymore.

That could be a while, too. Both of her parents, mother Rachel, 88, and father Sol, 90, work out nearly every day of the week. Call it genetics or chalk it up to something in the water, Delbridge just calls it passion they passed down to her.

“They’re a big inspiration to why I have done what I have with my life and fitness,” she says. “It keeps them young and it keeps them going. I am hoping it will do the same for me.”

Delbridge got her start teaching aerobics back in the 1980s while attending university. She took time off from it while she settled down with her husband, Darcy, as together they raised three kids. But the itch never left and she returned to fitness in the early 2000s.

Delbridge has now opened Fresh Soul Fitness, located at Patricia’s Ballroom in the Tuxedo Park Shopping Centre, where she teaches 12 classes a week over three different specializations — yoga, zumba and barre.

Delbridge was a Winnipeg Blue Bombers cheerleader back in the 1980s, and says her passion for fitness also comes from her love to dance. Teaching zumba, she says, gives her an emotional lift and creates a balance in her life. Yoga, she says, has allowed her to also slow down and smell the roses.

Delbridge keeps it healthy in the kitchen at home. She’s a vegetarian and says it’s important to make sure what is going into your body is wholesome. So much so that her three kids complain about all the “organic crap” she has around the house.

In 2011, Delbridge started taking her fitness show on the road with the help of LA Travel through its health and wellness retreat. Why do zumba and yoga in the dead of a Winnipeg winter when you can do it on the beaches of Mexico, right? That’s what Delbridge thought as well, and this past January took along 80 women for the weeklong getaway.

“I get so much back from inspiring others, I just can’t see myself doing anything else,” she says.

Delbridge’s fitness programs don’t just extend to the young, but also the young at heart. She also teaches four classes a week at various assisted-living facilities for seniors.

Even when she retires one day with her husband in their preferred destination of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, she still wants to teach more classes.

“I live a very healthy lifestyle — that’s just me.”
