Veteran character actress Lucita Soriano passed away Wednesday

Veteran actress Lucita Soriano passed away on Wednesday, her son, Garry Clint Adriano Garcia said via his Facebook account.

"Thank You Lord for the life you have given my mom here on earth. She is now at peace and will be coming back home to You. Thank You Lord for your kindness!!" Garcia said.

On Tuesday, Garcia said his mother was confined at intensive care unit of the Pacific Global Medical Center in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Hundreds of expressions of condolences flooded Garcia's Facebook account right after he disclosed his mother's demise. The sympathies came from personal friends, friends of the family, colleagues in the entertainment industry and fans.

Condolences also came via Twitter from celebrities, including Nadia Motenegro.

Among the many films Soriano acted in was the Lino Brocka-helmed "Bayan Ko, Kapit sa Patalim."

Soriano was also in the cast of another Brocka film, "Macho Dancer" in 1988.

In his Philippine Star column in December 2008, entertainment scribe Ricky Lo observed that " Lucita has retained her figure (she finished second to Mina Aragon, with Juliet Pardo the third-placer, in the ’60s Premiere-sponsored search for a star to play the lead role in I Believe)."

Soriano starred in "I Believe" along with fellow actresses Mina Aragon and Juliet Pardo, a post on the website of the Film Academy of the Philippines recalled.   — ELR, GMA News
