Major US foundations committing millions for campaign to eliminate religious exemptions
July 29, 2015
Several major American grantmaking foundations have committed millions of dollars to a campaign to eliminate religious exemptions to gay-rights laws, the Catholic News Agency (CNA) reports.
CNA found that six large foundations have made grants of $4.8 million to target religious exemptions. Among them are the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, the Gill Foundation, the Proteus Fund, the David Bohnett Foundation, the Arcus Foundation, and the Ford Foundation. Their grants have gone to support lobbying and litigation against religious exemptions. “We are at a crossroads where the choices we make will mean we will fight religious exemptions for two to three years or have a protracted twenty year struggle on our hands,” said Tim Sweeney, onetime program director of the Haas Fund, at a conference of homosexual advocates earlier this year.

We also have justice on our side. Unfortunately the opposition has the law on its side. The more cultural, political, legal, and ecclesial battles we lose, the nearer real martyrdom we edge. In my neck of the woods, we already suffer a spiritual martyrdom by being forced into a non-Catholic health care environment. The secular takeover of the region's oldest hospital from the Sisters of Mercy has relegated it to a foul institution with inferior health care. I speak from personal experience.

Christians are at war with the secular progressives with the time honored "weapons" of prayer and morality. The progressives have only money and the media on their side. The outcome is certain as long as we maintain our trust in God.
