Shaheen fails to defend her stance on Iran deal

Aug. 28 – To the Editor:

A few days ago I wrote Sen. Shaheen and asked that she not support the Iran agreement. Her response was the talking points of the Obama Administration. I had hoped she would show some originality and in depth reasoning that she used to come to her personal decision to favor the agreement. Here is my response to her:

“Your recent reply is very disappointing in that you merely reiterated your party's talking points in support of the Iran nuclear agreement. Your response is disappointing because you showed no evidence of having formed your own independent opinion based on the facts as they have evolved. Not only this, but you totally ignore the opinions of your constituents who, as a majority, come down against approving this flawed agreement. And, finally, we now see retired flag officers present their opposition to the agreement and its side agreement dealing with Iran conducting its own inspections. While Iran continues to chant ‘Death to American’ at its highest government level, you have chosen to support them with your vote. Surely you see the folly of your supporting vote and how it will affect our children and grandchildren in what you point out is ten years (or less) when Iran is free to continue developing nuclear weapons. (In the meantime they are developing the rockets to deliver these weapons.) Please show the courage expected of you as our other senator to oppose this gravely flawed agreement and join with others to find a better one that safeguards our safety and that of our ally, Israel and the other Arab countries in the region.”

The vote will take place on Sept. 17. Make your voice heard.
