A company that specializes in natural products aimed at health-conscious consumers is stepping in to help people whose breakfast menus may have been affected by last week's recall of more than 2 million pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon.
Sweet Earth Natural Foods is offering to replace the Oscar Mayer product with its Benevolent Bacon – its all-natural, plant-based product – for a limited time, according to a release from the Monterey, Calif.-based company. Sweet Earth said its high-protein product “sizzles like bacon, smells like bacon and delivers a smoky bacon experience with no cholesterol and 75 percent less fat than bacon from pork.”
Consumers who contact the company before Sept. 4 will be eligible to receive a free coupon by U.S. mail that can be redeemed at such national grocery chains as Whole Foods, Target and Kroger. Additional information on the sizzling stunt can be found on the Sweet Earth website, according to the release.
