It’s not quite how coach Billy Mills drew it up, but it may end up being the highlight of the Dinwiddie (Va.) football season.

With Dinwiddie’s special teams lined up on the right hash mark, the play seemingly began as a fake extra-point slash two-point conversion attempt. As the line shifted, the Mechanicsville (Va.) Hanover defense prepared for an old-fashioned extra-point try. And when placeholder Bryce Witt botched the snap, the whole thing turned into a two-point conversion again, with Witt finding standout wide receiver K’Vaughan Pope for a remarkable one-handed catch in the end zone.

When all was said and done, Mills may have found his solution to post-touchdown plays for the rest of the season: Throw to Pope — a 6-foot-2, 210-pound four-star Class of 2018 recruit with offers from Florida, Clemson and a host of other programs. If four defenders from Hanover — a team that reached the 2015 state quarterfinals — can’t stop Pope, who can?

This isn’t the first time Pope has warranted national headlines for an unreal effort, as his hurdling touchdown catch-and-run as a freshman for Dinwiddie may have been the play of the 2014 high school football season.

By the time his prep career is done, Pope will have quite the highlight reel compiled.
