An early morning argument on Thursday ended with a 66-year-old father shooting dead his 31-year-old son in Sitio Napo, Barangay Guindarohan, Minglanilla town in southern Cebu.

Rogelio Manguray Sr., a widower, shot Rogelio Manguray Jr., a motorcycle-for-hire driver, in the chest and neck, killing him on the spot, said PO3 Nicky Carlo Plarisan of the Minglanilla police station in an interview yesterday.

Manguray Sr. surrendered to police after the shooting.

Manguray Sr. told Plarisan that Manguray Jr. arrived home drunk at past 2 a.m.

Manguray Sr. said that when he scolded Manguray Jr., his son got angry, argued with him and at one point went inside the house got a bolo and attacked him (the father).

The father said he managed to run and get his .45 caliber pistol and shoot his son when he still continued to attack him.

He said what he did was an act of self-defense.

The suspect was detained at the police station pending the filing of charges.
