The CMA Music Festival kicks-off in a few days and event organizers are making sure that people remain safe should severe weather strike.

June in Nashville means the likelihood of two things for weather: hot temperatures or dangerous thunderstorms.

Monday morning, the National Weather Service office in Nashville awarded CMA Music Festival the certificate of StormReady supporter - the first ever awarded to a music festival.

“CMA Music Festival has always been proactive,” said Krissy Hurley, warning coordinator for the National Weather Service office in Nashville.”

According to Hurley, the main requirements to be a StormReady supporter range from having a person monitoring weather around the clock for the event, to having a hazardous weather plan in place should severe weather strike.

While thunderstorms are not expected to be a threat for this year`s event, very hot temperatures are.

Krista Dial of Country Music Association said additional water and cooling stations are being brought in to help keep people cool and hydrated.

CMA Music Festival last from Thursday through Sunday.
