After days of protest, Charlotte police finally released their footage of Keith Lamont Scott being shot and killed. As those who have grown wary of Black men being gunned down by cops predicted, the video makes you wonder why the officers considered Scott a threat—besides the obvious, his melanin.

The footage includes body camera and dash cam footage. Scott is seen exiting a white SUV, and there doesn’t appear to be anything in his right hand. The New York Times reports that he was right-handed. He is shot as he is backing away from the many voices yelling at him.

Now, Charlotte police claim the officers, who were there to serve a warrant to someone else, confronted Scott because they allegedly saw him rolling a marijuana cigarette. According to Chief Kerr Putney of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD, the combo of a handgun and marijuana made Scott a threat.

Just to be clear, a Black man allegedly rolling a blunt in his car made a bunch of cops, wearing bulletproof vests scared enough to shoot him. Also, police did not release all the footage, just what they deemed “relevant.”

‘Merica.
