POLICE rescued a woman who was held hostage by her neighbor at Barangay Punta Engaño at past 8 pm Tuesday.

Jessica Llait, a 44-year-old resident of Sitio Kalipayan, Barangay Punta Engaño had to endure more than an hour of being held at knifepoint by Ruel Maloloy-on, whom police negotiated with for more than an hour for her release.

Insp. Felix Cleopas, Mactan police precinct chief, said Llait’s son called them for help. Maloloy-on was reportedly upset when a certain Maria Bricaio, a neighbor started a rumor that the motorcycle he borrowed incurred damages.

The suspect was allegedly confronted by the motorcycle owner when he returned home last night and learned that it was Bricacio who started the gossip.

Llait just tried to pacify Maloloy-on and Bricaio but she was confronted by Maloloy-on who took her hostage.
