Mozammel Hossain

Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat-4 and the president of Bagerhat district Awami League, died in the early hours of Friday at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in the capital.

He breathed his last at about 1:00am at the age of 80, while undergoing treatment at the hospital, family sources said.

Mozammel was admitted to the hospital when he suddenly fell sick on January 4.

He is survived by only son Mahmud Hossain, a professor of Khulna University, and a host of relatives and admirers.

He was buried at the family graveyard in the afternoon after namaz-e-janaza at the South Plaza of the parliament bhaban, Bagerhat stadium and AC Laha Pilot High School premises in Morrelganj respectively.

His body was brought to Bagerhat in the afternoon after his first namaz-e-janaza at the South Plaza of the parliament bhaban.

His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Bagerhat stadium after Juma prayers and he was buried at his family graveyard after last namaz-e-janaza on the premises of AC Laha Pilot High School in Morrelganj.

Mozammel was elected as MP of Bagerhat-1 in 1991 and Bagerhat-4 for five times in 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018.

He was state minister for social welfare and women and children affairs ministry in 1996.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed shock and sorrow at the death of Mozammel Hossain.

In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled with profound respect his outstanding contribution to the Liberation War and the Awami League.

Sheikh Hasina said Mozammel played an important role in the development of his constituency when he was a cabinet minister and a lawmaker.

The prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

President Abdul Hamid mourned the death of Mozammel.

In a condolence message, the president expressed shock and sorrow at the death of Awami League lawmaker Mozammel Hossain.

Recalling his contribution to various local development, he said, Mozammel as an efficient parliamentarian played a significant role in local development and establishing democratic practices in many ways.

Jatiya Sangsad speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury expressed shock and sorrow at the death of lawmaker Mozammel Hossain.

In a condolence message, the speaker prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

In separate condolence messages, deputy speaker M Fazle Rabbi Miah and chief whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton condoled the death of Mozammel.
