Samsur Rahman Serif

Former land minister Samsur Rahman Serif, also Awami League lawmaker for five times from Pabna-4 constituency, died of old age complications at a private hospital in Dhaka early Thursday.

He was 80. He is survived by four sons and five daughters.

Samsur, also a language movement veteran and freedom fighter, had been suffering from cancer, kidney disease and some old age complications for the last few months.

He was undergoing treatment at the United Hospital where he breathed his last at about 5:30am, said his son-in-law and Ishwardi municipality mayor Abul Kalam Azad Mintu.

Born in village Lakshmikunda of Ishwardi in 1940, Samsur held the Pabna district AL president post for last 16 years.

He was buried at his family graveyard at village Lakshmikunda after his namaz-e-janaza after asr prayers.

President Abdul Hamid, prime minister Sheikh Hasina and speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in separate statements condoled his death.
