About the Speaker:
John Cameron is the lead Referee for the Shelby County Environmental Court. Judge Larry Potter appointed him to this position in 2007 with the approval of the Shelby County Commission.
As Referee, Mr. Cameron presides over environmental and traffic cases in Division XIV of the General Sessions Criminal Court. Off the bench, he conducts law enforcement and community education programs. Prior to his appointment as Referee, Mr. Cameron worked for a year under Judge Potter as an Environmental Court Specialist during which time he helped author the current state litter law. He has also worked for the State of Tennessee as a Probation Officer and for the Shelby County District Attorney as a Victim Witness Coordinator.
He served as a member of the Sustainable Shelby Initiative, the Memphis Bar Association Leadership Forum, Memphis 3.0 Land Use and Code Enforcement Committees and the East Buntyn and Evergreen District Boards. He presently serves on the Memphis Blight Enforcement Strategy Team, is Cubmaster for Pack 241 at Christ United Methodist Church, and is a New Memphis Institute Fellow.
