With a little help from Mother Nature, Loxon® Self-Cleaning Acrylic Coating keeps exteriors such as the McMenamins Elks Temple looking clean.

Reviving the Elks Temple in Tacoma, Washington, came as a welcome project for the community. The McMenamins group’s renovation of the long-vacant seven-story neoclassical building brought a brewery, several bars, a hotel and a grand ballroom — not to mention buzzy energy — to the neighborhood.

Built in 1916 in the second Renaissance Revival style, the temple was originally painted white inside and out to reflect the style of ancient buildings in Greece and Rome. While the interior renovation is now alive with color, the exterior remains a classic white in keeping with the building’s history and to match the historic, city-owned Spanish Steps adjacent to the property.

The design team for the McMenamins Elks Temple was thinking ahead when specifying coatings for the property, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic places. They knew that the white exterior would be subjected to the daily effects of the pollution and dirt that come with an urban setting. They chose Loxon Self-Cleaning Acrylic Coating to keep the exterior looking pristine for years to come. This high-performance, revolutionary product is engineered to coat smoothly and consistently on masonry, concrete and other exterior surfaces, without sacrificing aesthetics.

Self-cleaning

The enhanced water-shedding and dirt-resistant properties of Loxon Self-Cleaning Acrylic Coating means that every time it rains (or the building is washed), the building cleans itself. Mother Nature’s role helps extend the life of the coating and save money that would otherwise go toward extensive cleaning or costly repainting.

High-performing

The coating provides a highly durable and weather-resistant, flexible finish that adapts well to weather fluctuations. Its mildew-resistant formula contains agents that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew, important for a building like the Elks Temple, where the nooks and crannies of its textured concrete and plaster surface could harbor mildew. Because it is UV resistant, the coating will maintain its specific white color for a long time.

Innovative

The technology behind Loxon Self-Cleaning Acrylic Coating made using it easy on the contractors who painted the Elks Temple. The coating’s breathable film minimizes the potential for blistering, and it meets the most-stringent VOC regulations. Since there is no need to prime first, the coating can be applied to new concrete (seven days old) as well as previously coated concrete, masonry and concrete boards.

Loxon Self-Cleaning Acrylic Coating is available in a flat sheen, great for covering surface imperfections, or in satin to add a slight gloss and a richer look.
