Ranesh Maitra

Ekushey Padak winning journalist and columnist Ranesh Maitra died at a hospital in Dhaka early Monday.

Ranesh, also presidium member of Oikya NAP, breathed his last at the age of 90.

Oikya NAP president Pankaj Bhattacharya said that Ranesh was suffering from old age complications for the past few months.

Ranesh Maitra is survived by his wife Purabi Maitra, two sons and three daughters.

Jatiya Sangsad deputy speaker Md Shamsul Haque Tuku expressed condolence at the demise of Maitra.

Born on October 4 in 1933 at village Nahata of Rajshahi district, Maitra completed his IA in 1955 and BA in 1959 from Government Edward College in Pabna.

He started his career as a journalist in the weekly newspaper Noubelal published from Sylhet in 1951.

In the beginning of his political carrier, he was involved with National Awami Party and then joined Oikya NAP led by Pankaj Bhattacharya.

He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2018 for his contribution to the field of journalism.

Oikya NAP, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Gono Form, Sammillita Samajik Andolan and other political parties expressed deep shock at the death of Ranesh Maitra.
