Janitorial Maintenance

Aberdeen Housing Authority is seeking a part-time Janitorial Maintenance position to perform janitorial services on any assigned Aberdeen Housing Authority owned and/or managed units to ensure all rules and regulations of the Housing Authority and HUD are enforced. Responsible for responding to various work orders involving a variety of tasks including the care and upkeep of grounds and buildings. Guarantee all units are in decent, safe, and sanitary living conditions for all program tenants. Excellent part-time opportunity with competitive compensation $12-$15/hour (DOE)!

What you do!

  • Perform regular routine cleaning including but not limited to, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping all floors.
  • Cleaning all exterior glass entry doors.
  • Cleaning elevators and common areas.
  • Cleaning of all public and staff bathrooms.
  • Dusting interior areas as needed
  • Cleaning all stairways
  • Receive and complete work orders on a Samsung Galaxy or similar device or on paper as necessary. Complete any other required paperwork.
  • Maintain grounds, parking lots, and driveways by picking up debris.
  • Check units, where applicable.
  • Prepare vacant units for move-in, focusing on general cleaning of appliances, cabinets, floors, walls and bathrooms; as well as shampooing carpets if needed.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and trainings as required.

What you need to be successful!

  • Education: High School completion or Trade School
  • South Dakota driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Two years’ experience in janitorial work.
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices as required for equipment use and procedures.
  • Above average written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong experience with a key eye on housekeeping.
  • Knowledge of computer or tablet operations preferred
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Be able to detect problems before they become serious. Must be able to act in case of emergency, such as fire, water pipe breakage, etc. 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Ability to climb ladders to heights up to 12 feet.  Ability to bend and stoop with sufficient agility to perform required repairs.
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment, ground maintenance equipment, hand and power tools
