Politicians, academics, professionals and people from all walks of life on Friday paid their last respects to opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Moudud Ahmed at different programmes in Dhaka.

A huge number of people on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar, Supreme Court and BNP central office at Naya Paltan paid their last respect to the leader placing wreaths on his coffin.

Moudud died on Tuesday at a Singapore hospital at the age of 80. He had been suffering from old-age complications.

His body was brought in Dhaka on Thursday evening.

The body of Moudud was kept on the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar at around 9:00 where leaders of BNP, Jatiya Party faction, Gono Forum, Nagarik Oikya, Bangladesh NAP, Muktijoddha Dal, Doctors Association of Bangladesh, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founding trustee Zafrullah Chowdhury and people from all walks of life paid their last respect.

Late, his body was taken on Supreme Court premises at around 10:00am, where the fist namaz-e-janaza was held.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossoin, Supreme Court and High Court justices, fisheries and livestock minster SM Rezaul Karim and others attended the janaza.

Finally, his body was taken in front of BNP central office at around 11:00am.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Moudud Ahmed was a successful politician and lawyer.

Standing committee members of the party Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan and a good number of party leaders and activists attended the second janaza here.

Later, his body was sent to Noakhali at his village home.

His body was scheduled to be buried at his family graveyard in the afternoon.
